Wood comes under the category of recyclable raw materials. A huge advantage compared to plastic or aluminium frames. What’s more, wood requires less energy to produce. Fortunately, the number of certified forests is growing each year and the supply in wood with an environmental quality mark is increasingly greater. Bos was one of the first joineries that could delivery wood with an environmental quality mark. And we are still one of the few companies that have two environmental quality marks with COC number. We are also affiliated with Stichting Keurhout (timber certification validation/evaluation
ALTERNATIVE WOOD TYPES
Accoya is an alternative for hardwood. This is a modified wood type that greatly improves the properties of the material. The wood has the same durability as tropical hardwood and requires minimum processing. These properties provide a huge saving on future maintenance and painting costs. A complete curtain wall with a planed square measuring 60 x 300 mm realised by Bos serves as an example of this.
Bamboo Partly due to the increasing demand, the availability of durable wood is under pressure. Bamboo is a good alternative. A stem grass that ‘lignifies’ and grows at an extremely fast rate. Some species grow 50 cm a day! Apart from that, bamboo is not only popular for its environmental benefits. Its appearance also appeals to clients and architects. Bamboo can be delivered in various designs: side-pressed, plain-pressed and compressed. Bamboo has a high weight of approximately 1050 kg/m3 and has good fire resistant qualities. Moreover, Bamboo is CO2 neutral. Bos already has a lot experience with processing bamboo, such as linings for a pedestrian tunnel and straight and curved inner frames for housing projects.
